$780 million sewage system won’t solve toxic effluent problem
January 17, 2013 | Patrick Brown
What does Victoria have in common with other big coastal cities? It discharges sewage into the ocean. This was a contentious, if ramped up, issue in the recent federal by-election. Will taxpayers cough up? The new system means digging up a lot of roads, pumping the sludge 18 kms, and it won’t treat industrially contaminated stormwater drainage—while the effluent currently meets federal regulations.

Galiano hears new proposals for Forest zone dwellings
August 5, 2010
Most Galiano Islanders are working long and hard to solve the 20-year-long knotty problem of dwellings in the Forest-zone. As predicted, the discard of MacMillan Bloedel's tree farm onto the residential market did leave the community with a acrid mess to sort out. Seven new proposals have been put forward as part of the current OCP process. That Forest Lot Owners Association members have boycotted the process is not helping.
